Common Errors in Essay Writing

Common Errors in Essay WritingWriting an essay can be a difficult task to do correctly, and many people will use common errors when writing. These common errors often lead to a less than satisfactory essay, which the reader is not likely to be happy with. So, in this article I will go through some of the most common errors in essay writing. One common error that many students make is using the same word or phrase over. If you have a paragraph which contains two words 'I', you can usually get away with using these two words only three times, as they don't sound out of place. This is also true for pronouns. I should say that if you are using a pronoun like 'we' which should refer to a single person at most, then you should use the pronoun every time throughout the entire essay. Many students will make certain phrases into something that is too long. For example, if they are writing an essay on a subject about their ancestors they may choose to talk about their 'great-great-grandfather'. They may even include a whole paragraph on this subject, but it doesn't seem to fit in the essay, so they end up making the whole paragraph rather long.Another common mistake, particularly at the beginning of an essay, is beginning a sentence with a preposition. For example, if they are writing about their grandparents they may begin their sentences with 'as', 'in', 'and', 'on', 'by', 'in this case the first word is 'as' and the rest are prepositions. If you start with a preposition, you can be more sure that you are starting a sentence with a proper noun. If you have any doubts about the sentence it can just be moved up a few spaces and a further explanation can be written in the text box of the essay.Another common mistake that many students make is the useof commas or periods. Although they may seem easy to write, many students, especially those without the knowledge, end up using the wrong punctuation mark when they should not. The sentence structure should be as follows: A shou ld be replaced by B, C should be replaced by D, etc.Another common mistake is the use of 'the'the object of' before any clause. In most cases, the word 'the' does not really belong in a sentence, and although it has been used in the past, it isn't appropriate in today's writing. The best way to indicate that the clause is the subject is to write 'in the case of this particular sentence'.All of these common errors in essay writing are easy to avoid. First, if you are not familiar with any of the rules, then you should learn them before writing your essay. The more you know about writing properly, the better your essay will be.
